Water Testing

water testing

Southern Nevada’s water meets or surpasses federal Safe Drinking Water Act standards.

In 2014, Water Authority laboratory staff members collected about 36,000 water samples; conducted nearly 327,000 analyses; monitored water quality in “real time” 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; and tested for more than 140 regulated and unregulated contaminants.

Intensive testing can detect contaminants in concentrations of parts per billion (ppb). This ability helps SNWA detect-and manage-potential water quality issues before they become a regulatory concern. The Water Authority ensures testing accuracy through a certification program requiring us to periodically test samples from an independent laboratory. The results of these analyses are compared to those conducted at the independent lab. Annual inspections of the treatment facility also are included in the certification requirements.
